Final piece for the pan-adapter...

I think I finally have all the pieces. Last one to arrive was the
Clifton Labs Z10000 6.0 db preamp. Also, see the dime. The preamp
came with a little packet of a selection of these devices. Jack, what
it is this?

COM Redirection

Some more off the shelf software technology being evaluated and possibly adopted to support the Mentone remote.  The DTS-4 Antenna Switch (MaxiCOMM) Core program is running on the Tuscaloosa desktop computer.  It is communicating with the LDG DTS-4 antenna switch in Mentone.  It sends COM requests to Tucaloosa virtual COM7 that is routed by HW Virtual Serial Port to the host.ip.add (Mentone) port 23.  In Mentone, Remote COM Port 1.4e is listening on port 23.  Inbound traffic on port 23 is routed to COM7.  The LDG-DTS-4 is cabled to COM7.  The net result is that switching requests originating in Tuscaloosa using DTS-4 Antenna Switch (MaxiCOMM) Core directly control the LDG DTS-4 without the need to otherwise connect remotely to Mentone--no Remote Deskop, LogMeIn, etc.  Just the COM signal travels across the Internet just as if it were a serial cable 150 miles long.

The next step is to connect COM4 and COM7 and attempt to control the rig.  The goal is reduce overhead to the absolute minimum, e.g. just the control signals and down telemetry.

Free floating 2m and 440 Hustler Vertical

Click on the image to enlarge.  See the Hustler vertical floating about 30' above ground.  The real test will be first high winds.  The antenna is kept in the vertical by a sash weight suspended from the bottom of the mount.  Look closely and you can see this weight hanging from the bottom of the vertical.

W4BXI Bow and Arrow Antenna Installation System

Back by request.  Here is a video showing the W4BXI bow and arrow system for putting up antennas.
It is a GREAT system.  The bow allows very short AND very long shots.  Enjoy.
